Laser epilation
Used along with such hair removal methods as chemical (creams-depilatories) mechanical (wax) and
electrical (high-frequency epilation), the procedure of laser epilation presents the new effective
methods.
Laser treatment allows for a purposeful removal of individual hairs as well as hair cover on quite large
skin areas.
Removed is first of all the hair located:
- On the face (upper lip, chin, eyebrows);
- On the chest, back, abdomen;
- In the armpits;
- On the bikini area;
- On the legs.
Procedure
The epilation procedure is not painful, and the local anesthesia may not be used.
Hair roots located subcutaneously at the area to be treated, destruct under the action of a short highly
intensive laser pulse. The use of a modern computer-controlled generator allows for a rapid and uniform
treatment.
Due to continuous cooling at the expense of directing irradiation through the cooled laser sapphire
window, the procedure is low painful, and in so doing the protection against unpleasant irritation is
provided. Usually, you feel just a slight pain like after a needle prick, this proving that laser pulse
has exerted its action on the right site.
The purpose of laser energy action is to destruct the hair pigment. Therefore, the darker is the
hair, the higher is the hope for a successful result. White hair cannot be removed by this method. To
considerably reduce the number of hairs, it is required to perform several procedures with certain time
intervals, depending on specific body areas and the degree of pilosis.
Possible side effects and complications
On a very sensitive skin small crusts may form, whose healing usually runs without problems. Rarely,
temporary vesicle may appear, and this may lead to the formation of more visible superficial crusts or
scarring. For certain skin types the trial treatment of a small area may be recommended. Such skin
diseases as acne or herpes may be activated due to the procedure.
In case of allergy to sun light (photodermatosis), more intensive reaction to the procedure is possible
with severe edema and skin reddening, which usually resolve on their own.
If you want to be subjected to anesthesia, we will discuss all its benefits and drawbacks.
Success of procedure
Immediately after the procedure it is difficult to evaluate its successfulness. Hair roots destruct
slowly, that is why a successful result may be seen just during the next weeks.
After the procedure hairs still retain on the treated area for some time, and then come out.
The necessary number of treatment sessions depends on the hair color, skin thickness, hair thickness and
pigmentation, аs well as you skin sensitivity.
Unfortunately, on the basis of present knowledge, it is impossible to guarantee the complete and
long-term hair removal: in many patients the growth of not numerous lighter and thinner hairs may be seen.
Before the procedure
To minimize the risk of pigmentation change, you should avoid excessive UV-irradiation (solarium/sun
bathes) during four weeks before the procedure, or use sun-protection cream with SPF = 25 or higher.
To ensure optimal conditions, you should shave hair to be removed shortly before the procedure, so that
they slightly protrude off the face surface (approximately 3mm). Optimally, this should be done 48-72
hours prior to the procedure. We will discuss this point with you in more detail.
During the procedure
You will be wearing protective glasses. However, we strongly recommend you to have your eyes tightly
closed during the whole procedure. Should anything bother you, please let the doctor know of this, keeping
your eyes closed until he/she permits you to open them.
After the procedure
Within several days following the treatment, especially if you have left the epilation area unshaved,
hair may retain on the skin. This is explained by the fact that a laser does not exert an instant effect
on hair, and hair may be kept on the skin for some time.
After the procedure one can observe more or less pronounced reddening of the treated skin area. The
treated area should be cooled after the procedure for about 2 hours. To this effect, it is best to use
cooling packages storable at home in the refrigerator freezer. You should avoid excessive UV-irradiation
during 4-6 weeks after the procedure: do not take sun baths or attend solarium. If sun exposure is
inevitable, apply to the treated area sun-protection cream with SPF = 25 or higher.
To wash the treated area, you should use only pH-neutral soap or shower gel. Not be exposed to water for
a long time. Avoid using cosmetics with aromatic substances during the first 2 months after the procedure.
If the procedure has been performed at the out-patient facility with the use of anesthetics and/or
analgesics, your attending doctor will inform you whether you need to be accompanied by an adult
companion, since the speed of your responses may be limited due to taking drugs. We will let you know when
you would be able to return to driving or operating movable mechanisms.
During this intermediate period you should not use alcohol and make important decisions.
Within 24 hours it is not recommended:
- To take bath, attend sauna or swimming pool;
- To do active physical exercises;
Do not traumatize the skin (do not scratch or pinch the skin)!
