Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is an injection technique of intra –and subcutaneous drug
administration in small doses either directly into the area of interest or remotely.
Main objective: curative effect due to medicament action and reflexogenic effect
due to stimulation of biologically active skin points and zones.
The basic principle of the method has been formulated by its pioneer M. Pistor: “Little, rarely and
into the right place”. In other words, mesotherareutic preparations are administered rarer then in
other injection techniques and in much smaller doses, this enabling the organism allergization to be
reduced.
It was also М. Pistor who suggested the term “mesotherapy” (action on tissues originating
from mesoderma). The base of the technique considerable efficacy is laid during the intrauterine
development.
The method of “mesotherapy” arose in 18th century after the invention of a hollow-needle
“syringe” for injecting substances into morbid areas: “it is preferably to inject drugs
into the area needing a curative effect, rather than saturate with drugs the entire organism”. Of
much popularity has become the hypothesis that anesthesia of a certain skin area exerts curative effect in
diseases of internal organs. This postulate was subsequently confirmed by the discovery of the
“Skin-originated reflectory phenomena” (Jarricot, 1932).
In modern esthetic medicine mesotherapy is used for:
- Prophylaxis and correction of age-related alterations
- Treatment of acne and seborrhea
- Prophylaxis and treatment of cellulitis
- Treatment of hair loss
- Correction of rosacea and couperose
- Treatment of scars and striae
- Preparation for rehabilitation after plastic operations
Taken into account in selecting mesotherapeutic preparations are pharmacology, mechanism of pathology
development, age-related alterations and individual specific features of a patent’s organism.
Basic groups of preparations:
- Allopathic and homeopathic
- Of the general, local and combined action
- Vascular
- Anti-inflammatory
- Tonic
- Antioxidant
- Anesthetic
- Lipolytic
- Vitamin
What does make mesotherapy so effective and attractive?
- Non-deep injection of preparations
- Small doses of preparations
- Convenient periodicity and intensity of treatment course (general and supportive)
- Ability of direct comprehensive action on the area of interest
- Ability of being combined with other cosmetologic procedures
- Ability of being selected individually
- Both momentary and durable effect
How are preparations injected? There are several injecting techniques:
- Manual (by hands):
- “nappage” or superficial multiple injections: the technique is miniinvasive and does
not require rehabilitation period
- separate injections technique: intracutaneous injections with papula formation used to correct
skin wrinkles and folds
- linear technique: infra-wrinkle injection parallel to the skin surface
- Instrumental technique: with the use of special equipment.
