Bodylift
On aesthetical grounds, bodylift (overall lifting of the body) is increasingly penetrates the sphere
of plastic surgery as an operation aimed at shaping the body contours after a considerable loss of body
weight. Bodylift is one of the most complex operations for patients and therefore it should be performed
by the most qualified surgeons only.
Basic indications to bydylift are:
- Sagging anterior abdominal wall, body sides, skin on the back, buttocks, and hips in the form of folds
due to the loss of body weigh;
- Pronounced body fat deformity;
- Flaccid skin changed by distensions during pregnancy and due to weight fluctuations.
The principal purpose of bodylift is to correct the body contours. It is necessary to underline here that
the main task is not to create an ideal body but to achieve its considerable improvement as compared to
its initial state.
Specific features of bodylift include:
- Possibility of being combined with liposuction and lifts of other areas (brachioplasty, mammoplasty);
- Possibility of the waist modeling due to elimination of diastasis recti;
- Possibility to camouflage a postoperative scar in the future with the help of underclothes;
- Possibility of being combined with other (cavitary) operations
During classical bodylift, after liposuction in a patient’s prone position the dissection of the
skin-fat flap is performed in the low back area and on the buttocks. The flap is repositioned and closed.
A patient is turned to her back to perform liposuction of the anterior abdominal wall and dissect the
skin-fat flap up to the level of costal arches. In the case of an excessively tensed aponeurosis (due to
pregnancy, as a rule), its plasty is performed, i.e. suturing to create conditions to maximally reduce the
abdominal mass and model the waist. After a considerable repositioning of the skin flap, a new umbilical
opening is formed, wherein the umbilicus is fixed, and the wound edges are sutured.
